چکیده
E X P E R I M E N T A T I O N in the space cabin simulator at the School of Aviation Medicine has been designed, in part, to study the physiologic and psychologic responses of the human organism to a "'space-equivalent" environment. This environment represents the predicted space cabin environment in most respects, the most important absent environmental parameter being zerogravity. The subjects are maintained under ideal experimental conditions: continuous observation, continuous environmental control, uniform activity and control of food and water intake and excretory output. Under these conditions we have been able to study the physiologic effects of prolonged inactivity, isolation, exposure to altitude and exposure to high oxygen percentage in the absence of inert gas. This report will deal first with observations on the physiological responses and physical performance of the space cabin subjects. Secondly, the problem areas of water balance, pulmonary function, oxygen toxicity and dysbarism will be discussed in relation to recent results obtained in the space cabin simulator.

Observations in the SAM two-man space cabin simulator. I. Logistics aspects.
P R I O R to the time that man goes into space, much background work and laboratory testing must be completed. A large number of variables must be identified and their separate and combined impacts on the biological portion of the vehicle system assessed. These variables range from physiological parameters to emotional aspects of isolation, confinement and danger. Some of these variables can be...
متن کاملCardiovascular Deconditioning from Space Cabin Simulator Confinement.
D IFFICULTIES ENCOUNTERED in assessing the influence of weightlessness on the circulatory system have previously been discussed, s Problems other than weightlessness which profoundly influence the cardiovascular system must also be considered. One of these in confinement or inactivity resulting in cardiovascular deconditioning. Simulated hypogravic studies done to date all include inactivity as...
متن کاملPrepositioning of a Driving Simulator Motion System
Every dynamic driving simulator, no matter how advanced its motion system is, has limited space in which to recreate the accelerating motions of the simulated road vehicle. The VTI driving simulator Sim IV is no exception. The classic motion cueing algorithm used in Sim IV strives to centre the drivers cabin in the simulator motion envelope and is tuned to precisely accommodate accelerations in...
متن کاملInteractive Aircraft Cabin Simulator for Stress-Free Air Travel System: A Concurrent Engineering Design Approach
In this paper, a study of the concurrent engineering design for the environmental friendly low cost aircraft cabin simulator is presented. The study describes the used of concurrent design technique in the design activity. The simulator is a testbed that was designed and built for research on aircraft passenger comfort improvement of long haul air travel. The simulator consists of an scale down...
متن کاملDesdemona, an alternative moving base design for driving simulation
Desdemona is a moving-base research-simulator that was designed with a special focus on spatial disorientation demonstrations, flight simulation, and driving simulation. The cabin is equipped with a car mock-up that contains force-feedback on pedals and steering wheel, and out-the-window visuals. The cabin is mounted in a fully gimbaled system that, as a whole, can move vertically and horizonta...
